for Janis

When l think about Janis, my heart overflows... with memories of her as a child,
Memories of how she looked when she laughed, how her eyes crinkled up when she smiled.
she was such a delightful and bright little girl... a real -pleasure for us to have,
we felt so privileged to share in- her life, and she always could make us laugh.

She learned to talk very quickly, and that was so thrilling for me,
To hear her trying to pronounce big words... like, lN-Cl-DEN-TALLY.

Yes! even at that very early age of two one could easily recognise,
That Janis would always be a tryer... a trait which never ever died.
But needless to say she had to grow up, losing many of her childlike ways,
yet one thing remained, and never got lost ~ her sweet mature ... It never changed.

Her laughter was so very Infectious... bribing brightness into our day,
We knew exactly when she was coming, her chuckling always gave her away.

She was kindness itself and always seemed to know the needs of the people around,
Yet she never expected anything In return... not a selfish bone could be found.

One day she was looking at my poetry, scribbled down and so difficult to read,
She said, "Aunt Jean, I can, help you... i know exactly what you need".
So she took all my jumbled-up notes away and added her professional touch,
That's how she used her computer skills, she just wanted to help ... so much.
When she took her first really bad Illness we expected her then to give up,

We felt she should take It easy for a while.,
and not just rush back to work.
But lo-and-behold how wrong could we be ~
she just boomeranged straight right back,

Sheer spunk and determination were qualities that she never lacked.
It was always her mode of thinking to 'get up' and try again,
And In any of our conversations she never ever mentioned pain.
She laid aside all kinds of self-pity... for failure she had no room,
Proving by her positive attitude she could overcome doom and gloom.
it must have been so very difficult... to be ill and never complain,
Yet her smile never withered nor wavered one bit, and her nature always stayed the same.
She loved her family, they were special to her... and for them she just wanted the best',
For their sake she tried to keep going, when sometimes she needed to rest.
She always said "My Alex", and was teased quite a bit... especially by her Auntie Nan,
she believed her Alex could do anything ~ well why not?... he was her man.

She never professed to be godly, as such, yet one phrase she used all the time,
Whenever she was sorting out plans, she would say... God willing it will all work out OK

So as we gather here In this 'House of God'... with memories like 'sweet falling rain',

I quote that same verse from Janis herself- ‘God willing’ we will see her again.
