Lest We Forget

Joe O'Raw who lives in Craigneuk has kindly donated the following pages to the group, his hope is that we will be able to add more material. His dedication to his friend Jimmy Johnstone is below. This compilation is no way exhaustive as the memorial presents details of only those who signed up as resident in Shotts,  and does not include those who may have moved away for work etc.  We have in the past tried requesting information, with no success, so perhaps with the information we have published here, more will be forthcoming.
Also, we feel it would be nice if local survivors and perhaps with some of their stories/memoirs.

Please note, this information as with all our site, is intellectual copyright, so please do not plagiarise. We offer it freely but not for publication on other Web sites.

JIMMY JOHNSTONE

This Memorial Book is dedicated to Jimmy Johnstone, who was the inspiration behind my compiling the book. Jimmy was a Shotts man through and through, and never lost his love of Shotts and the people who lived there. When I had compiled several other memorial books for various other local villages and churches etc; Jimmy mentioned he would love to see a book about the men from Shotts who died and served in the twoWorld Wars. I decided to surprise him by compiling a book about the fallen of Shotts in the1939 – 1945 war, sadly Jimmy took very ill and I lost the race to have the book finished for him, when he died two weeks before the book was completed. With his death I lost one of the best friends and one of nicest men I ever knew. May he rest in peace.
