What does one say about the Salvation Army? Everyone knows the work that they do the world over. In wars and disasters they are among the first on the scene, their help to the down and outs is beyond reproach in almost every city throughout the world. The Shotts group may not do the work we all know of but I’m sure they give their contribution in other forms. They still go round Shotts collecting donations every week-end

My first contact was similar to most Shotts people and that was to attend the Band of Hope in the hall at the works corner. This hall was their first permanent home in Shotts after being the public hall, Barr’s hall and any other hall that could be made available to them. From l927 until 1975, they were at the Works Corner.

The Andrew Thomson hail in Torbothie was purchased in 1975 and they have been there since.

There are other religious bodies in Shotts such as the Gospel hall and the Mission Hall in Dykehead.
In Main Street, Stane, Jehovah’s Witness have their Kingdom Hall.
