“The Seventeenth of May, Nineteen Hundred and Eight.” It was on that date Shotts Baptist Church was constituted in the hall of the Good Templers situated at the Works Corner and rented at the cost of four shillings (2Op) per Sunday. A small company numbering 18 men and women, received from Rev.D. Merrick Walker, R. N. the right hand of fellowship and became the founder members of the Church. Strong in faith in their God, they, “Launched Out” to be, by means of this cause, “Fishers of men” in the community. They were in residence at the Works Corner until 1927 when it was taken over by the Salvation Army. Their second church was in Station Road which was converted from the old Pavilion theatre. It was opened on 5th January 1935. In 1998 they were force to move again as the building became unsafe due to dry rot. It has since been demolished and new homes have now been built on the site. The next Church was another conversion from a telephone exchange and opened in 1998 at Dyfrig Street |
